Please note: this is not a new machine. I spent months combing the used market for a gently used one, and this one was recently professionally serviced. The newest model E8 (EC) looks a little different, with a 3.5\" display and buttons that look slightly different. The newer grinder is also called the PAG2, which has more clicks. The reason I went with a used machine, is because it doesn't always make sense for me to buy a new model at €1.100 or $2400, when there's a plethora of used models for much cheaper. I like to be efficient, and save money when I can. I'm sure it lasted that long because I descaled and cleaned it religiously, and more often than I was advised to. When I gave it up, it still could've kept going if I had simply shipped it off and replaced O-rings, but I was tired of descaling and cleaning by then. The moral is if you do the maintenance on these machines, they are built to last. The grinder also worked fine all those years, and in the later years after SuperGrindz came on the market, I cleaned the grinder with that product. The milk drinks do not let you set an amount of milk/froth/foam, but a time of pumping milk. That is, you have to figure out how many seconds of milk pumping to get the amount of milk you want. This is the thing . . . the amount of milk you get with, say, 8 seconds of pumping, depends on the height of the surface of the milk in the carafe. Try this . . . fill the carafe with milk. then make 5 cappuccinos in a row. Each subsequent cappuccino has less milk. This is because the head pressure for the pump decreases as the milk level goes down (it has to suck harder to get the milk, so less milk flows). Also, there is no way to control/set the ratio of milk/froth/foam. It sort of figures out what it thinks you need. You were generous in saying you wish the cappuccinos were a little warmer. I would say they are tepid, and very soon almost room temperature. For me, so tepid I really don't enjoy the cappuccinos. Blowing some really hot water/steam into the coffee cup first helps a little. In the end, this is what I do. I extract an espresso stand alone. Then I put the milk tube in the same glass I am going to extract the foam to. I then turn on the steam milk selection, and just let it keep recirculating and refoaming the same milk. Then I pour this hot steamed milk/foam over my espresso. That comes out acceptably hot, but at some point by the time you do all this you might as well just make a cappuccino from a traditional machine. I am dismayed by the coarse grind of the coffee, and find the pucks too many times be soggy/sloppy, almost like what you find in a Mr. Coffee filter after making drip coffee. I have a nice grinder, and can use that to grind finer, and then put it in the chute, but again, at some point you might as well just use a traditional machine. I am not a coffee snob. I got the E8 because when we have guests, I can end up spending a lot of time at the Rocket Appartamento making coffee, instead of visiting with the guests. The E8 does solve the problem, and lets me make coffees quickly, but wow, I just really wish it made better coffee. I especially don't understand the course grind issue. The best super automatic I ever had was a Gaggia Platinum Vogue, which I had bought about 20 years ago, and was $600. It really made coffees as good as traditional machines. That machine lasted me 15 years. Each subsequent super automatic that I have had, has had a shorter and shorter life. The last Gaggia I bought lasted 6 months.
