After losing my Bushnell Pro X3, I decided to give the Garmin Approach Z30 a try—and I’m so glad I did. At $200 less than the Pro X3, it’s a fantastic value, especially since I already own a Garmin Approach watch. The Z30 integrates perfectly with my watch, making it easy to get accurate yardages and manage my game more effectively. One of the best features of the Z30 is how seamlessly it works with my watch. When I shoot the pin's distance with the Z30, it automatically updates the yardage on my watch. Once I’ve locked onto the pin, I don’t have to shoot the distance again—I can rely entirely on my watch for the rest of the hole. This is a huge time-saver and incredibly convenient, making it easier to focus on my game. The Z30 itself is lightweight, easy to use, and locks onto targets quickly with a satisfying vibration. I also love the slope-adjusted distances (PlaysLike Distance), which help with elevation changes, and the “Find My Garmin” feature is a lifesaver if you ever misplace it. The magnetic cart mount is another great touch, keeping it secure and accessible.Overall, the Garmin Approach Z30 is a high-quality rangefinder at a more affordable price. If you’re already in the Garmin ecosystem, it’s a no-brainer. As a rangefinder it works as expected in this price range-- gives you yardages quickly, vibrates when it locks onto the pin, and clear, bright display. I especially like the bright red test. Coming from a Precision Pro NX9 Pro, this was a nice upgrade, though I really enjoy the NX9 Pro at its price point. The standout features of the Z30 are for owners with compatible Garmin watches. In my case it's the Garmin Approach S62.When the rangefinder locks onto a pin, it will update your watch's \"middle green\" distance with the pin yardage. Additionally, based on the GPS data, the rangefinder's display will give you how much green you have to work with in front and behind of the pin which is pretty cool (when it works-- keep reading).I've used the Z30 now for close to 10 rounds. It works 95% of the time as intended, but I have a couple of issues:(1) While you get a pin yardage update on your watch, it obviously doesn't know which part of the green the pin is located. For example, if the pin is tucked on either side, you'll just get a picture of the green on your watch with the pin along the yardarge returned from the Z30. You'll have to manually drag the flag to the correct side of the green. It's not a deal breaker for me necessarily as I'd rather be pin high, but it would be nice to know what side of the green is best to miss [FEATURE REQUEST: It would be nice if Garmin would give a more approximate pin placement based on your GPS location relative to the green.](2) There is one hole on the course that I've been testing the Z30 on where the watch GPS yardage is actually shorter than what the Z30 is giving me. For example, I may get a F/M/B distance of 85/90/95 on my watch, but when I hit the pin with the Z30, it gives me 103. As a result, I don't get an update in the watch of the pin's distance due to the discrepancy between devices. I think this is more of an issue with the course data and gps not in sync, and not an issue w/ the Z30 necessarily. All in all, the Z30 came at the right time for me. I was looking to get into another stat tracking ecosystem, but the added value of the Z30 along with my S62 will keep me around.","date":"2026-02-19","sentiment":"positive"},{"productId":"prod_273","source":"Amazon","sourceUrl":"https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D79MK21G","author":"Amazon Customer","rating":5,"text":"Good RF without slope.. Very satisfied and it links with my garmin S62 watch (that is woefully inadequate in maintaining a signal from hole to hole). Once you shoot the flag the watch will use that data to assess any subsequent shots vs GPS. Doesn't have slope but I think that function is overrated. The same is true for wind. Ive seen forums with people saying it won't read yardages after a while. Is it a fault in production. Anyone had it for a long period of time ?","date":"2025-09-08","sentiment":"neutral"},{"productId":"prod_273","source":"YouTube","sourceUrl":"https://youtube.com/watch?v=V5a3eKnJAgA","author":"@ezonex","rating":null,"text":"How accurate is the Z30 at placing pins on the green? For example, if the pin is front-left, would it show that exact location on an S70 watch so I could just glance at my wrist while chipping?","date":"2025-09-27","sentiment":"neutral"},{"productId":"prod_273","source":"YouTube","sourceUrl":"https://youtube.com/watch?v=V5a3eKnJAgA","author":"@AlabamaGolfer","rating":null,"text":"Obviously, battery life is going to vary upon usage. The CT10 sensors supposedly have a maximum life of up to four years. Mine lasted less than five months from the time I opened the box, but I play four to five times per week. But if that’s a similar standard here, I might have to change the battery every couple of months. That might be kind of annoying considering my current Bushnell has lasted me the entire year despite my frequent usage. I do however use the S70 watch, and some of the features added by this rangefinder do seem intriguing. Decisions, decisions. 🤔","date":"2024-11-10","sentiment":"neutral"},{"productId":"prod_273","source":"YouTube","sourceUrl":"https://youtube.com/watch?v=V5a3eKnJAgA","author":"@Aim-jay","rating":null,"text":"Do you know if the z30 work with the Epix gen 2. It would be great however if you guys improved the CT10 sensors and post round insights in the Garmin Golf app to better compete with ARCCOS and Shot Scope.
